WILSON TENT

Wilson Tent

The Wilson tent is named after Edward O. Wilson an American biologist, researcher, theorist, naturalist and author. Known most for his work with insects, ants in particular and his theories social behavior developed from his research and exploration.

The Wilson Tent, developed while in a residency with Bookworm Gardens was vehicle in pursuit of a better understanding of place, making space to slow down, to listen and look at what surrounds us. The tent is used was a mobile camp or clubhouse for reflection, discussion and sharing of drawings, writings and specimen found.

I was able to work with the “Little Botanists” during their camp, we met up and discussed observational drawing and other methods for looking and learning. Using drawing worksheets I developed we went out into the gardens to explore what was growing and document it. We translated our drawings into repetitious “mandala” drawings.
